The first Masjid build in Mayfair West in the apartheid years. The local whites used to throw the windows of the Masjid broken out of spite. Eventually most of them moved out and today the Masjid is surrounded by Muslim.

Build in 1894 this Masjid was located in the Muslim Malay community of South End and was frequented by the local Muslim. The appartheid government evicted all the non-whites from the area but the Muslim are slowly moving back.
This masjid is located on the Port Elizabeth harbor. Many years ago government had plans to build a bridge which would go over the Masjid and would require the minaret to be lowered or removed and the Muslim community stood up against this plan. The highway has been blocked where the bridge was suppose to start.
